Audi A5 Sportback G-Tron debuts with a special exterior finish. In case you don't understand Audi's nomenclature, we can tell you E-Torn stands for electrification, while G-Tron stands for gasification.
The all-new A5 Sportback will also be available with a compressed natural gas powertrain just like the A3 Sportback and the A4 Avant.

Audi is bringing the A5 Sportback G-Tron through a bespoke job created to debut at the annual Wörthersee GTI meet. The A5 Sportback G-Tron is dressed in a dark grey paint; the bespoke model has blue accents in the headlamps and stylish two-tone alloy wheels which are supported by a braking system with blue callipers.

The designers have also installed a blue honeycomb rear wrap, a black rear spoiler, and tinted rear lighting units. Also, the "G-Tron" lettering embellishing the front doors and above the rear window.

Parent company Volkswagen has a fully modified 410-hp hybrid GTI First Decade concept on display as well at the annual Wörthersee GTI meet.

Power to the Audi A5 Sportback G-Tron comes from a 2.0-litre TFSI petrol engine churning out 168bhp and 270Nm of torque. The show car is mated to an S Tronic automatic transmission, but Audi will sell its third G-Tron model with a manual as well.

The point of the 'G-Tron' moniker are the tanks for the gas fuel capable of storing 19kg. These tanks have an elaborate construction as their inner layer is built from gas-impermeable polyamide matrix while the second composite layer includes of carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP) and glass fibre reinforced polymer (GFRP).

Then there's a third glass fibre layer where the epoxy resin is applied to bind the fibreglass reinforced materials.

With fuel efficiency is the key to the Audi A5 Sportback G-Tron, the S Tronic-fitted model needs 3.8 kg of gas/ 100 km while in petrol performance it uses 5.6 litres/ 100 km. The A5 Sportback G-Tron can cover up to 500km running solely on gas as per the New European Driving Cycle.
When the gas level drops to 0.6kg, the car automatically switches to petrol operation, and that enables an additional range of 450 km. Which means, the G-Tron can travel almost 965km with all tanks full.

Apart from the CNG and petrol, the G-Tron is also compatible with Audi's e-gas generated by using renewable energy from water and CO2 or using residual organic materials such as straw and plant clippings.
