2017 Los Angeles Auto Show: 2018 Hyundai Kona revealed.
South Korean automaker Hyundai has revealed its new compact crossover, the Kona at the 2017 Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Hyundai Kona is a small crossover which was previously revealed for the European market. Now, the US-spec model has made its debut.
The exterior design of the US-spec Hyundai Kona remains unchanged. The front fascia of the compact crossover features an unusual headlight setup on the front bumper; sleek LED daytime running lights and the signature cascading grille. The lower portion of the bumper plays host to the fog lamps.
The bonnet of the Kona is muscular with creases running through either side. The side profile of the crossover sports a shoulder line running across the door handles and integrates with the tail lights. The plastic body cladding runs across the body and wheel arches which give the Kona a rugged look.

The rear of Hyundai Kona is also unusual with the sleek LED lamps on the tailgate and the plastic cladding on the lower portion houses the turn indicators and reverse light. The rear of the crossover also sports faux skid plates.The floating roof design, rear spoiler and the roof rails render a sporty look to the Kona.
The Hyundai Kona is based on an all-new platform and the crossover is designed to offer good ground clearance, spacious interior and a commanding driving position. In the US market the Kona will be offered in both front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive-system.
The US-spec Kona is offered with a choice of two petrol engines, a 2-litre four-cylinder and a turbocharged 1.6-litre unit producing 145bhp and 172bhp respectively. The 2-litre engine comes mated to a 6-speed automatic gearbox and the top-spec 1.6-litre unit is mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
The interior of the Kona features an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and other options such as Sirius XM Radio, HD Radio and Blue Link LTE connectivity services. A heads-up display and wireless charging pad for smartphones are also available.
The safety features of the Hyundai Kona include forward collision-avoidance assist along with lane keeping assist, high beam assist, driver attention warning, blind spot warning and rear cross traffic alert.

With the Kona, Hyundai has entered into the booming small crossover segment in the US market. The rugged design and compact dimensions of the Kona will be a plus for the urban users. The Kona will hit the roads in the first quarter of 2018.
