Yellow Cabs In Kolkata To Turn To App Platform Soon
The days of putting out your hand and calling "Taxi" is looking to fade away as the yellow cabs in Kolkata will turn to the app platform soon. The state government is issuing a notice asking all the yellow cabs to move to the app platform.
According to a senior government official, this move would give the cabs a level playing field with other taxi aggregators like Ola and Uber. The yellow cab drivers have been asking for such a thing so that they will not have to look for customers and make empty runs.
The app makers have said that the cab drivers will not only find good customers, but it will have a lot of security features like online tracking that will make commuting safe.
TYGR App for example, has its app installed in over 2000 cabs in the city, and Dipanjan Purkayastha, the Co-Founder and Managing Director of the app says, "With one and half months of our efforts, it is quite an achievement. But we want a sizeable cabbies to install the app so that a commuter always gets a cab, irrespective of time of the day."
The app will be free to download and revenue will be earned through online advertisements and online transactions. TYGR App has tied up with a bank and cabbies can buy a smartphone and a card swiping machine for an EMI of Rs. 500 a month.
