Volvo Earns Its First Victory At The World Touring Car Championship
Volvo known as a dominant force in the Scandinavian Touring Car Championship (STCC) has managed to extend its winning ways in the international arena as well. Volvo along with Polestar Cyan Racing earned their first victory at the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC).
Thed Bjork, the three-time champ of STCC pulled off a solid performance at the Shanghai International Circuit on Sunday. He started from the sixth position and fought his way up to the chequered flag. He caught the race leader Norbert Michelisz, driving a Honda, in the last three laps of the race.
At the second-to-last corner of the track, Bjork experienced a damage of suspension of his car; however, made to the finish line to earn his first win. The win was not just first for Bjork, but for the team of Volvo and Polestar as well in the series.
To add to the celebration was Richard Göransson claimed the fourth consecutive title for the Volvo and Polestar Cyan Racing team in the STCC. Volvo and its racing team partner Polestar Cyan Racing have been domination in the STCC since its inaugural in 2010, winning the first and all except for two titles till date.
