The SUV will ride on the group's Modular Transverde Matrix (MQB) platform. The measures are 5,037mm long, 1,979mm wide and 1,767mm high, making it the largest Volkswagen on sale.
According to a report from a Chinese magazine, the SUV will come with a 2.8-litre TFSI engine in two outputs - 186bhp and 320Nm of peak torque, and 220bhp and 350Nm of peak torque, in addition to a German-made 2.5-litre V6.
Both the powerplants are mated to a 7-speed DCT transmission providing the power to all four wheels with help of 4Motion AWD system.
In China, the SUV will compete against likes of Toyota Highlander and the Ford Edge. The price range of the Teramount starts from 300,000 yuan (Rs 30 lakh) to 450,000 yuan (Rs 45 lakh).
Volkswagen is all geared up to unveil this massive SUV at the 2016 Guangzhou Auto Show next month.
