2017 Volkswagen Polo R WRC Revealed In The Form Of Design Sketch
Volkswagen Motorsport, the racing department of the German carmaker has revealed the sketch of the 2017 Volkswagen Polo R WRC Rally car and some information about the car. Only the sketch has been revealed and the actual car itself will make its debut at the first stage of the 2017 rally season.
One major update the car will receive is a tweaked engine, that will develop 60 more horsepower, thanks to the new FIA regulations. The car is expected to deliver around 380 horsepower.
Volkswagen has made changes to the car's aerodynamics as well, making it look sleeker and aggressive, while also helping the car with more downforce. Volkswagen also claim that the new rally car for the 2017 season will be lighter and wider compared to the company's current model.
The design work on the car began in summer 2015, just after the International Automobile Federation announced new regulations for the 2017 World Rally Championship. Jost Capito, the VW Motorsport Director has stated that the new regulations will allow many technical innovations that will make the car faster.
Under the new FIA rules, the car should be 3,900mm long, weigh a minimum of 1,175kg, and allow teams to use an electronic centre differential. Performance will be improved using the same 1.6-litre turbocharged engine.
