Although Volkswagen will not be public listing its truck business until 2019. A spokeswoman from Volkswagen said that currently, they are focusing on intensifying co-operation between their truck brands Scania and MAN, to be globally successful in truck business.
MAN has developed a cloud platform called as RIO which is capable of connecting those in the freight business, including hauliers, dispatchers, and receivers. It will also provide traffic and navigational data for truck drivers.
Volkswagen plans to invest hundreds of million euros in developing digital tools for trucks as it strives hard to compete with Daimler and other leading truck manufacturers who are developing smart logistics and connected trucks.
The RIO cloud platform will be helpful for logistic firms in utilising vehicles capacity, reducing empty trips, save fuel and better transportation. RIO can be used by fleet operators, small and medium-sized hauliers and other small companies.
