Volkswagen India is expanding operations at its manufacturing plant in Chakan, near Pune as it looks to to bump up production levels with the imminent arrival of the Ameo Sedan and to meet the higher demand for exports.
To facilitate the expansion of operations, the German carmaker has hired 800 more employees and is adding a third shift at its manufacturing plant. The company plans to hire more employees as it aims to increase production levels by 15 percent.
Speaking about the matter, Dr. Andreas Lauermann, President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited, said, "In 2016, we are expecting growth in our domestic as well as export volumes. With the new Ameo, a car that has been specially developed for India, we are expecting a higher demand from the domestic Indian market while we look at supplying more cars to our export markets too. In all, we expect to increase our production by around 15% this year as compared to the last one."
