People prefer the SUV over conventional sedans for its practicality in traveling in urban and soft off-road conditions. Tata Nexon
The Tata Nexon was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and many have taken afancy to the new compact SUV from Tata Motors. The impact design philosophy is evident with the new approach from the home-grown automaker.
Tata Nexon will come under the sub-4 meter segment competing with the likes of Maruti Vitara Brezza, Ford EcoSport, and the Mahindra TUV300. Tata Motors in most probable will power the Nexon with its 1.2-litre Revotron petrol engine and a new 1.5-litre diesel mill. This engine will bepaired with the option of a manual or the AMT gearbox technology.

Maruti Suzuki Ignis
Maruti Suzuki has tasted success with the Vitara Brezza beating competitors in India. The country's largest automaker will look to establish itself as the leader in the compact SUV segment as well.
Next up for the company will be the Ignis crossover SUV, many call it the micro SUV. The Ignis was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo and has spied testing in the country. The dimension might look like a hatchback; however, the styling and characteristics will be that of an SUV.
The Maruti Suzuki Ignis will be powered by the new 1.0-litre Booster Jet petrol engine and the 1.2-litre mill is also expected on the crossover SUV.

Hyundai Carlino
Hyundai is not far behind Maruti Suzuki when it comes to understanding the Indian market trends. This was evident with the showcase of the Carlino at the 2016 Auto Expo. Hyundai calls it the Carlino Concept.
The South Korean company wants to enter the space currently held by Maruti Brezza and the Ford EcoSport. The Hyundai Carlino will be based on the Creta and will carry forward most of the features and equipment from the Elite i20 as well. Hyundai has not revealed details of the powertrain though we can expect to be in the 1.2-litre range.

Mahindra's Tivoli Based Compact SUV
The name Tivoli is from the SsangYong company that Mahindra bought, Mahindra is working on the same platform to suit the sentiments of the Indian market. The Tivoli compact SUV will be based on the Tivoli's X100 platform.
The all-new compact SUV from Mahindra will carry forward most of the features and equipment from the Tivoli SUV. The new SUV from Mahindra will be powered by a 1.5-litre diesel engine and an all-new 1.5-litre petrol unit. Once launched it will compete with Hyundai Creta and the Renault Duster.

Jeep Compact SUV
Jeep has entered India finally and has big plans for the country. The American company will look to India to manufacture right-hand drive SUV for countries which require this format of driving.
The model will be based on the Renegade Platform and will continue to retain the brand's trademark styling cues. The global unveil is expected soon and will be on sale in Brazil first before it hits the Indian market. Not much is known about the engine specifications. The new compact SUV from Jeep will compete with Hyundai Creta, Renault Duster, among others.
