Here is the list of top 10 most expensive cars in the world; for the sake of clarity, this list is based on categorisation of recently made, road legal production vehicles only. We are leaving classic cars sold in auction and one entrant per nameplate.

10. Koenigsegg Regera ($2 Million)

Costing $2 million, the KoenigseggRegera starts our list at the 10th spot. The hypercar from Koenigsegg is powered by a twin-turbo 5.0-litre V8 and 4.5kwh battery pack which packs a punch with 1480bhp of pure power.

The Koenigsegg Regera can go from 0-60mph in 2.8 seconds, however, its most impressive performance comes with it goes from 0-186mph at mind-blowing 10.9 seconds. A top speed of 248mph achieves bragging rights for the hypercar.

9. Koenigsegg One:1 ($2 Million)

The limited edition leaves logic behind when it comes with the cost of $2 million. The 1:1 is a limited-edition based on the Agera R from Koenigsegg which earned its name from 1:1, kilogram-to-horsepower ratio.

With the power of 1323bhp, it can reach a top speed of 273mph. Just six of these were produced and all have been sold. This is one of the fastest sports car made with its F1 inspired style honeycomb core, carbon fibre intake manifold, and ventilated ceramic brakes.

8. Bugatti Chiron ($2.5 Million)

The Bugatti Veyron sent pulse racing with its claim to the top speed cars in the world. So how do you follow the classic with the new - Bugatti makes it even better.

When people started to think that the Bugatti Veyron is the last of its kind, the Chiron made its way to the road beating records by the Veyron.

So how does it look in terms of specs? The Bugatti Chiron is powered by a massive 8.0-litre quad-turbocharged W16 engine which producing a menacing 1480bhp of power.

It can go from 0 - 60mph in flat 2.5 seconds with a top speed of 261mph. The Chiron might not be the fastest, however, it does come with a statement.

7. Ferrari F60 America ($2.5 Million)

Based on the F12 Berlinetta, the F60 was the outcome to celebrate 60 years of Ferrari's presence in the US. The company built 10 of the limited edition models to commemorate the event.

The F60 wears the stars and stripes theme of the Americas with the American flag seat fabrics, classic racing livery all around. Also, the fabric top can be operated at speeds of 75mph.

Powering the prancing horse is the 6.2-litre V12 engine which churns out 730bhp of power which can make the car go from 0 - 60mph in 3.1 seconds.

6. Pagani Huayra BC ($2.6 Million)

The beast of Pagani Huayra which covered the Top Gear lap as the fastest is named after the Incan God of Winds. At the 2016 Geneva Motor Show, Pagani unveiled the lighter and hotter version and called it Pagani Huayra BC.

The Huayra BC is powered by 6.0-litre V12, twin turbocharged AMG engine and punches out 789bhp, which can make the car go from 0 - 60mph in less than 3 seconds.

In spite of addition like the active-adjusting rear spoiler, additional front intakes, a wider rear track, new side skirts, and new diffuser, the car is lighter and powerful.

5. Ferrari Pininfarina Sergio ($3 Million)

With only six made, it might not be the most expensive, however, it is one of the most coveted vehicles in the world.

Designed by the legendary Italian design house Pininfarina, the Sergio is a Ferrari 458 Spyder with new body and interior.

Adding attention to the Bugatti Veyron might sound bizarre, however, Mansory has covered the exterior with lacquered carbon fibre. On inside, there is a new inner front grill, shortened hood, larger side scoops, a spoiler package and LED clusters for the front and rear lamps.

The beast is powered by 8.0-litre W16 engine punching out 1184bhp and can go a max speed of 254mph.

3. W Motors Lykan Hypersport ($3.4 Million)

The Lykan Hypersport is well known for its stint the Furious 7 movie, where the car crashes through not one but three skyscrapers in Dubai. With many cars in the movie, the Lykan Hypersport stands apart.

The Hypersport can go from 0 - 60mph in 2.8 seconds flat with the 3.7-litre twin turbo engine which produces 760bhp of power with top speed of 240mph.

1. Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita ($4.8 Million)

Koenigsegg seems to have the love for fast and expensive cars, this its third car in the list and takes the numero uno position.

So why is it the most expensive car on the list? Are diamonds cheaper? No. Well, that's the reason for the Trevita to be expensive literally.

The Swedish manufacturer developed the car's exterior finish and calls it Koenigsegg Proprietary Diamond Weave, this involves coating carbon fibres with a diamond dust-impregnated resin.

The car is powered by 4.8-litre, dual-supercharged V8 with a total output of 1018bhp which can go from 0- 60 mph in 3.1 seconds and a top speed of 250mph.
