Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza

Maruti Suzuki might have been late to enter the sub-compact SUV segment; however, the launch of the Vitara Brezza catapulted the crossover SUV to be the top selling car in the segment.

The Vitara Brezza was launched with the initial pricing of Rs 6.99 lakh - current pricing starts from Rs 7.19 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi) - the sub 4 meter SUV went on to become the best selling SUV in India. Maruti has sold nearly 83,000 units of the Vitara Brezza since its launch back in March 2016 to stamp its authority in the best new car sales in India in 2016.

Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is powered by a 1.3-litre engine which produces 89bhp and 200Nm of torque which is mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. As per ARAI figures, the mileage of the Vitara Brezza is class leading with 23km/l. The Brezza boasts of features such as standard ABS with EBD and driver airbag, cruise control, auto headlights, rain sensing wipers among others.

Toyota Innova Crysta

India's favourite people carrier, the Toyota Innova was a convincing product from the Japanese car manufacturer. By launching the new Innova Crysta, did Toyota cannibalise its own product? Well, Toyota has sold nearly 50,000 units since its launch in May 2016and rewriting the books of the MPV segment in the country.

The Toyota Innova Crysta comes with the starting price of Rs 13.72 lakh and is available in both diesel and petrol units. Some of the 'out-of-the-ordinary' features of the Toyota Innova Crysta include seven SRS airbags, ABS with EBD and Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control and Hill Start Assist Control and 3point ELR Seatbelts front and rear for all passengers.

The Innova Crysta comes in both the petrol and diesel engines, while the diesel model is offered in two states of tune: 2.4- and 2.8-litre engines, the petrol unit is a 2.7-litre engine. Both the petrol and the diesel units comepaired with the 5-speed manual or the 6-speed automatic gearbox.

The petrol model is powered by 2,694cc engine producing 163.7bhp and 245Nm of torque. As for the diesel units, the 2393cc engine develops 147.8bhp and 343Nm of torque and the powerful 2,755cc engine produces 171.5bhp and 360Nm of torque.

The mileage of the Innova Crysta in real world conditions are 13km/l to 15km/l for the diesel and 12km/l to 14km/l for the petrol model.

Tata Tiago

Like the Phoenix rising from the ashes, Tata Motors seemed to have found the winning formula again with the Tata Tiago. Tata Motors launched the Tiago in April 2016 with the introductory pricing of Rs 3.20 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi).

Based on the impact design philosophy of Tata Motors the Tiago contributes 47 percent of the overall sales of the company. The Tiago has been selling with an average of 6,000 units a month since its launch. The Tiago is equipped with features such as dual front airbags, ABS with EBD, Corner Stability Control, Juke App with Harman music system, and Smartphone enables turn by turn navigation system.

The Tata Tiago is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol unit which produces 84bhp and 114Nm of torque and the diesel unit which is of 1.05-litre engine, churning out 69bhp and 140Nm of torque. Both the engines are paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The mileage of the petrol model of the Tiago is 23.84km/l and diesel returns a mileage of 27.28km/l.

Conclusion:

All the three vehicles have broken into the top selling cars in India for 2016. The Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza is among the best-selling passenger vehicles in India, the Toyota Innova Crysta rules the Utility Vehicles (UV) segment and the Tiago recently broke into the top selling cars in India.
