Top 10 Selling Cars In October For India
Maruti Suzuki’s top-selling cars witnessed a huge decline in sales compared to previous year
The festive season of October brings new car purchases and manufacturers look forward to better their sales numbers. However, the year on year sales have declined and the top four spots remained the same.
Here are the top 10 selling cars for the month of October 2016:
10. Maruti Suzuki Celerio
The new entrant in the top 10 selling vehicles when compared to the same period in 2015, also, compared to September 2016.

Maruti sold 9,581 units of the small car in October 2016. The option of the Automatic Manual Transmission (AMT) gearbox has lifted the sales of the Celerio. Maruti was the first to bring the AMT technology through the Celerio and has captured the market especially in the auto gearbox segment.
9. Renault Kwid
After selling like hot cakes - not that it has stopped now - the Kwid from the French automaker has slipped position compared to the previous month of September 2016.
Renault Kwid was at the 7th position in September 2016 by selling 10,558 units, while the company was able to sell only 9,801 units in October 2016. Has the Kwid run out of steam? Well, there could be areason, Renault has recently revealed the AMT variant of the Kwid and could be the reason for the slip in sales.
8. Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza
Launched in 2016, the Vitara Brezza has taken the compact SUV segment by storm and eventually hitting the top 10 selling cars almost immediately.
Maruti sold 10,056 units in October 2016 compared to 9,375 units in September and has climbed one position from the previously held 9th position. Even though the Vitara Brezza is offered in a single engine option, the Brezza is a well-packaged car with all the required features, safety, and all the more the pricing which has led to the high sales.
7. Maruti Suzuki Baleno
Another 2016 launch from the Maruti was the Baleno and has gained momentum since its launch in the country. The Baleno sold through the premium network of NEXA showrooms has been a hit becauseof its features and the standard fitment of safety equipment.
Maruti sold 10,718 units in October 2016 and in September the company sold 10,623 units. The increase has been marginal; however, Brezza has been choice compared to the premium hatchback and could be the reason for the slip in position.
6. Hyundai Elite i20
The Hyundai Elite i20 regained its lost ground with sales of 11,532 units in October 2016 compared to sales in September 2016 of 10,254 units at 8th position.
This sales number should come as a relief for Hyundai since it has been facing severe competition from the Maruti Baleno. In October 2015 Hyundai sold 11,019 at 6th position. Hyundai will look to retain the momentum and continue to sell its premium hatchback at the same trend.
5. Hyundai Grand i10
The hatchback from Hyundai continues to hold the 5th position compared to the same month in 2015 as well as compared to September 2016.
Hyundai sold 14,530 units in October 2016 compared to 14,079 units in October 2015, reflecting that the Grand i10 will continue to be the bread butter product for Hyundai. The Hyundai Grand i10 also managed to better its numbers compared to September 2016 when it sold 12,212 units.
4. Maruti Suzuki Swift
Maruti's Swift is one of the best product to come to India and has been a favorite among buyers; however, of late the small hatchback has been witnessing adecline in sales.
Maruti sold 14,611 units in October 2016 compared to 17,669 units for the same period last year and slipping one position from 3rd to 4th this year. Also, it slipped one position compared to September 2016 when it sold 16,746 units. There is definitely a drop in sales of the Maruti Swift, but, the company will be bringing the next-generation Swift next year loaded with features, hope this lifts the Swift position in the top 10 selling cars in India.
3. Maruti Suzuki Wagon R
'Surprise' is the word for the sales of the Maruti Wagon R, apart from Hyundai i20 which rose in its ranking, the Wagon R has done that for Maruti.
Maruti sold 15,075 units in October 2016 compared to 14,734 units in the same period in 2015 when it stood at 4th position. Also, in September 2016, Maruti sold 16,645 units and stood in 4th place, even the number was less compared to this month, the Wagon R outdid its nearest competition.
2. Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire
Maruti Suzuki sold 21,084 units back in October 2015 and in this year, the company sold 17,682 units in October. There is a significant decline in sales of the subcompact sedan even though it is the only sedan in the top 10 selling cars in October 2016.
While in September 2016, Maruti was able to sell 18,961 units and it clearly suggests that there is a lower interest in buying the car.
1. Maruti Suzuki Alto
This might not come as a surprise as the Maruti Alto has been ruling the top 10 selling cars for a while now. What is significant is that the Alto has been declining in sales.
Maruti was able to sell 18,854 units in October 2016 when compared to 22,861 units in the same period in 2015. Even in September 2016, Maruti sold 27,750 units showing signs of recovery; however, the Swift DZire has been witnessing adecline in sales. Maruti has been testing the new Swift DZire and is expected to hit the market mid-2017 hoping it will revive the model.
Observation:
Clearly, the top four selling models are ruled by India's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki. In general overview, the sales of the Maruti's top four models has been declining as new brands make their way to the Indian market.
Another observation is that of Renault Kwid, it is only theother car manufacturer compared to Maruti and Hyundai to enter the top 10 selling cars in India. The sales have decreased for the Kwid, but with the AMT launching soon, this could revive the sales of the Kwid back again.
