Bentley's first ever SUV has arrived in India and it's everything that you will find in a Bentley but with a rather big twist.
This a Bentley that can go off-road, though you might not want to to that and spoil the paint.
So let's take a look at this rather unusual record-breaking Bentley and find out what makes it tick.
First SUV In A Storied 96 Year History
The Bentley Bentayga is the first ever SUV that Bentley has made since the company was founded over 96 years old on January 18, 1919 in Cricklewood, North London by brothers H. M. Bentley and W. O. Bentley.
An Ugly Duckling At First
The Bentayga was first seen as the EXP 9F Concept at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show but the design was panned by critics.
Bentley returned in 2015 with the redesigned production version of the SUV at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
The Story Behind The Name
The Bentayga name is inspired by the Taiga, the the world's largest transcontinental snow forest as well as the Roque Bentayga, a rock formation on the Spanish island of Gran Canaria.
Power Mad SUV
Bentley claims that the Bentayga is the World's Most Powerful SUV. Providing 600bhp and 900Nm of torque is a massive 6-litre twin-turbocharged W12 engine which also does duty on Bentley's Continental range of cars.
The Fastest SUV In The World
The massive power and torque from the engine is sent to all four wheels through an 8-speed gearbox, which helps the Bentayga sprint from 0-100km/h in 4.1 seconds and onward to a top speed of 301 km/h.
These figures help the Bentley SUV claim the record for the fastest SUV in the world.
Massive Engine - Massive Thirst
However, don't expect that W12 engine to be a frugal one as its gulps down petrol by the litre at a rate that can be terrifying.
End result, a claimed mileage of 7.8km/l.
It May Be A SUV But It Is A Bentley First
Exterior design wise there is a lot of chrome up front on the grille and air intakes with the typical Bentley quad LED headlamp combo.
B For Bentley Or B For Bentayga?
At the back the the usual chrome is there as well those gorgeous taillamps with LED's in the shape of 'B'.

Wood, Leather And More - This Is A Bentley After All
Inside, you get the usual Bentley standards of Luxury and pomp. As is seen in this shot, you can get the Bentayga dash done up in wood (quite a few versions of it).
Bentley also adds a lot of aluminum as well as the layers and layers of leather for all inside to luxuriate in.
The Price To Match The Pomp
All that luxury, speed and off-roading ability comes at a price, a rather steep one at that. The Bentley Bentayga was launched in India for a massive price of Rs. 3.85 Crores, ex-showroom.
