Tesla Sues Oil Honcho Who Impersonated Elon Musk — The War Between Oil And Electricity Rages On
American electric carmaker Tesla is suing an executive of an oil pipeline services company, who the carmaker claims tried to impersonate Tesla CEO Elon Musk in an email.
Tesla is suing Todd A. Katz, Chief Financial Officer of the Quest Integrity Group. Tesla claims that Katz Musk impersonated Musk in an email to the company's CFO Jason Wheeler.
According to Forbes, Tesla claim that Katz, whose company provides services to oil and gas giants like British Petroleum, Chevron and ExxonMobil, sent an email to Wheeler from the email id [email protected] compliant by Tesla says the email address is similar to one Musk has made use of in the past.
In the mail, sent on Katz on August 3, 2016, the oil exec sought highly confidential and proprietary Tesla information regarding confidential financial projections and car pre-order numbers.
The message read:
why you so cautious w Q3/4 gm guidance on call? also what are your thoughts on disclosing M3 res#? Pros/cons from ir pov? what is your best guess as to where we actually come in on q3/4 deliverables. honest guess? no bs. thx 4 hard work prepping 4 today

Instead of replying Tesla started an investigation into the email which they say lead them to Katz.Along with Katz, Tesla says as many as 10 other unnamed individuals were involved.
Beyond the undisclosed financial compensation, Tesla lawsuit also also asks Katz to reimburse for the cost of Tesla's investigation into the matter along with the legal fees for the case.
