Supercharging For Tesla Model 3 Will Not Be Free
Tesla Motors CEO Elon Musk has dropped a bombshell by stating that owners of the upcoming Model 3 sedan will not get free access to Tesla's Supercharger charging stations.
Speaking to shareholders Musk said that the only way to bring the Model 3 into the market at its expected base price of $35,000 "is to decouple (free supercharging) from the cost of the Model 3."
Instead Musk stated that the option for 'free supercharging for life' could be bought purchased as an option, or a package. Musk was quick to tell investors that the package would still be cheaper for customers than using a regular car and fossil fuels.
Musk said, "So it (supercharging) will still be very cheap - and far cheaper than gasoline - to drive long-distance with the Model 3, but it will not be free long distance for life unless you've purchased that package."
