It seems like Tata Motors is benchmarking the facelifted Xenon against the Ford Ranger. The Ranger shown here is an older global version. Tata has a plant in Chakan, Maharashtra and Ford's plant is located in Chennai. Most of Ford's test mules wear TN plates and it suggests that the Ranger is being used by Tata Motors to benchmark its new Xenon.
By testing and benchmarking the Xenon with Ranger, there is also a possibility that Tata Motors might be preparing to launch the new vehicle for the international market. We can expect the new Xenon AT to be launched in the Indian market next year.
The current Xenon is powered by a 2.2-mitre turbocharged diesel engine that produces 145bhp and 320Nm of torque and is mated to 5-speed manual gearbox.
