Tata Tiago To Get Hot-Hatch Treatment
Tata Motors has dropped plans to introduce the Bolt Sport, but will instead launch a hot-hatch variant of the Tiago. Tata's plan to drop the Bolt Sport, which was showcased at the 2016 Auto Expo, seems to be a good decision, as the sales numbers for the Bolt hatchback don't paint a pretty picture.
The Tiago, on the other hand, seems to be flying off showroom floors, with 5,000 cars being sold in July, making it the best-selling car in the Tata lineup in India.
The new Tiago Sport will be powered by a turbocharged version of the 1.2-litre 3-cylinder Revotron petrol engine found on the current Tiago. The turbo petrol engine is currently being developed for the Nexon compact SUV, and will produce around 104bhp in the SUV.
However, with the faster Tiago Sport expected to compete with the likes of the Fait Punto Abarth and the upcoming Maruti Suzuki Baleno RS, the turbocharged engine is expected to produce in excess of 120bhp in its bid to capture the hot-hatch market in India.
Apart from the new turbocharged engine, Tata will fit the new Tiago Sport with lowered suspension along with stiffer damping. An aggressive looking body kit will help differentiate the Sport, from the normal Tiago in terms of looks.
