Tata Tiago Variants & Models Explained

The Tata Tiago is much talked about small car currently, with a competitive pricing of the Tiago, let us take a detailed route to find out what the variants have to offer.

Tata Tiago comes in five variants - XB, XE, XM, XT and XZ. The XB being the base variant and XZ forms the best of the Tiago features.

Tata Tiago Exterior & Interior

Tata Tiago XB - The base variant will sport the body coloured bumpers, headlamps and taillamps will be standard across variants, spoiler and high mount stop lamps are standard as well. A welcome break from the Tata on the Tiago, this will separate the car from a taxi feel, Tata is offering the Tiago as a premium small car with the standard exterior features across variants.

What the base variant does not get is the wheel covers, body coloured door handles, no ORVMs with LED turn indicators, chrome garnish on the front fog and chrome strip on the front grille.

Coming to the interiors, the XB will feature the dual tone interiors, bottle and cup in the front console, door pockets with bottle holder, tablet storage in the glove box and chrome insert for the gear knob.

However, the interiors for the XB do not come with a power outlet, the interior lamp with dimming effect, collapsible grab handles with a coat hook, no rear parcel shelf, premium full fabric seat upholstery is available from the XE and XM variants as an option.

Tata Tiago XE & XM - The mid-variant of the Tiago exterior does not have much change from the base variant except for chrome strip on the front grille and half wheel caps.

As for the interiors, the Tiago XE variant will come with front power outlet and ticket holder on A-pillar. The XM variant of the Tiago will also feature interior lamps with dimming effect, collapsible grab handles with coat hook and rear parcel shelf. The premium full fabric seat upholstery as an option for both these variants of the Tiago.

Tata Tiago XT & XZ - Apart from what the first three variants of the Tiago, XT will come with full wheel covers, body coloured ORVM and outside door handles. The Tiago XZ variant will feature alloy wheels, ORVMs with LED turn indicators and chrome garnish for the front fog lamp.

On the inside, the XT variant of the Tiago will sport the premium full fabric seat upholstery as standard and the Tata Tiago XZ will come with body coloured air vents for colours of Sunburst Orange and Berry Red only, other colours will receive the chrome finish. Also, the XZ will feature knitted fabric on interior roof liner.

Tata Tiago XB & XE - These variants will feature the engine immobiliser, however, it will lack the airbags, ABS with EBD and corner stability control, speed sensing door locks, follow-me headlamps, rear parking sensors, day and night IRVM, front fog lamps, seat belt with pre-tensioners, rear defogger and wiper with wash.

The Tiago XE variant though will get the dual airbags and seat belt with pre-tensioners as an option.

Tata Tiago XM - Apart from what the previous two variants get, the XM will also feature optional airbags and seatbelt pre-tensioners. As standard on this variant, it will come with speed dependent auto door locks and follow-me headlamps.

Tata Tiago XT & XZ - The top of the variant of the Tiago XZ will get standard dual airbags, ABS with EBD and corner stability control, front fog lamps, seat belt with pre-tensioners, rear defogger and wiper with washer.

The Tiago XT will get the optional of dual airbags and seat belt with pre-tensioners, however, no ABS with EBD or the corner stability control, no fog lamps or rear defogger with wiper and wash.

Tata Tiago Features

Tata Tiago XB & XE - The multi-drive mode of Eco and City will be standard across variants, however, the XB will not come with AC but a blower is provided. Electric power steering, remote fuel and tailgate opening, seven-speed front wipers, 100 percent flip and fold rear seat, tinted glass for windows and tailgate, and internally adjustable ORVM.

The Tiago variant of XB will not feature driver seat height adjustment, central locking with flip key remote, power windows, electric adjustment of ORVM, vanity mirror, cooled glove box and boot lamp. As for the XE, the driver seat height adjustment and the adjustable front headrest is optional and AC will come standard.

Tata Tiago XM, XT & XZ - Apart from what the first two variants get, the XM will get central locking, power windows, and internally adjustable ORVM. The next variant of the Tiago - XT will feature electric ORVM and vanity mirror and optional driver seat height adjustment and adjustable front headrest.

Tata Tiago Entertainment & Instrument Panel

Tata Tiago XT & XZ - Tata has made good inroads in the music system on the Tiago, the small hatch comes with Harman infotainment system with Bluetooth, USB, AUX-IN, iPOD connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation system, speed-dependent volume control and steering mounted audio controls.

One of the unique features of the Tiago is the Juke-Car app which lets passengers log in and play any music of their choice. The Tiago XT gets all of these except that it will feature four speakers and does not get four tweeters and steering mounted audio controls.

The other variants of the Tiago will not feature any of the entertainment features, having said that, you can always buy one from the market and could work out cost effective.

Moving to the instrument panel of the Tiago, the top variant XZ will come with 2.5" Driver Information System Display with digital clock, gear shift display, trip metres, average fuel efficiency, and distance to empty. Along with these are the tachometer, door open and key in reminder, driver seat belt reminder, and LED fuel and temperature gauge.

As for the remaining variants, all features are available except driver seat belt reminder (optional for XE and XM) and LED fuel and temperature gauge. The Tiago XT does get the seat belt reminder.

Tata has been very efficient in the layout of the offerings in each of the variants, not much is missed by the variants, the base variant too allows you to buy at an affordable pricing and can be upgraded for your music entertainment requirement. However, it does miss out on the safety feature, Tata could have provided this as an option.

The Tata Tiago will compete with Maruti Celerio, Ford Figo and Hyundai Grand i10. The Tata Tiago is powered by a 1.2-litre petrol engine and 1.05-litre diesel engine. The transmission is taken care by the 5-speed manual gearbox, the engine pushes out 84bhp at 6000rpm and torque of 114Nm at 3500rpm for the petrol and the diesel engine punches out 69bhp at 4000rpm and torque of 140Nm at 1800-3000rpm.
