Tata Motors Working On Tiago Crossover Model For India

By Ajinkya

Tata Motors has experienced a positive response amongst Indian vehicle buyers for its Tiago hatchback. The all-new Tiago was launched in India during April 2016 and has since garnered over 20,000 bookings. Now, the Indian manufacturer plans on using the Tiago platform to spawn new models.

At the 2016 Auto Expo, Tata Motors had set up a personalisation stall. Showcased to the general public was a Zica crossover called the Zica Aktiv. The Zica is identical to the Tiago, owing to the newly found virus named Zika, Tata Motors decided to change the name of its new hatchback.

Now there seems to be a huge possibility that Tata could introduce an all-new crossover based on the Tiago. Several manufacturers previously have followed a similar route to boost sales in India. Volkswagen Cross Polo, Fiat Avventura, and Toyota Etios Cross were all based on their hatchback counterparts.

In terms of engine and performance, the Tiago crossover will be similar to the hatchback. The exterior design of the Tiago crossover will be more rugged and off-road like. Ground clearance will be increased to provide better off-roading capability.
