The Supreme Court has extended the registration ban on diesel cars with engines size 2000cc and above till the next hearing on the subject.
In the hearing on March 31, the Supreme Court of India has maintained status quo on the ban till the next hearing. Chief Justice of India T.S. Thakur, who was one of the three judges in the Special bench of the Supreme Court hearing the case said that the court would consider imposing an environmental cess on diesel vehicles if the ban on registration of diesel vehicles is lifted.
The Supreme Court also gave a one month extension for taxis currently running on diesel to convert to CNG which should help app based cab services Ola and Uber.
