Skoda To Launch Rapid Facelift In India Today

Rapid
sedan
on

2016.
The
new
model
comes
with
reworked
exteriors
and
an
updated
diesel
engine.
The
Rapid
has
been
on
sale
since
2011
and
this
first
time
the
car
is
getting
a
major
update
since
its
launch.
The new Rapid gets a more angular styling upfront, which includes a wider butterfly grille directly flanked by angular headlamps and new bumper design. The styling cues are borrowed from its elder siblings; Octavia and Superb. The rear-end still resembles the outgoing model.
The engine is a new 1.5-litre TDI diesel unit; the same powerplant that powers the Volkswagen Ameo diesel variant as well as the Vento.
The diesel powerplant is able to produce 110bhp, thanks to the heavy modification and a bigger turbocharger. The other engine variant will be a 1.6-litre petrol which remains unchanged.
When it comes to transmission choices, customers can either have a five-speed manual or 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox.
Inside, the vehicle will offer the same dual-tone black-and-beige cabin like the current model. The top variant will be equipped with a touchscreen entertainment system with the MirrorLink and Bluetooth support, sat nav and reverse camera.
The new Rapid will compete in the entry-level sedan segment against the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Honda City, Volkswagen Vento and the Fiat Linea. We expect it to be priced in the range of Rs 8 lakh to Rs 13 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
