Battle For Supremacy — Renault Kwid AMT vs Maruti Celerio AMT
With India ready to accept automatic gearbox technology, Maruti launched the Celerio in 1.0-litre format with AMT (Automatic Manual Transmission), which continues to sell a good amount of the Celerio.
Not many manufacturers wanted to be left behind, many offered the automatic variant and have reaped some benefits. Renault wants to get into the game in the entry level hatchback segment with the Kwid 1.0-litre AMT.
So how does the Kwid AMT perform when you pit it against the Celerio AMT? Let us take a detailed comparison to find out.

Design of the Kwid AMT vs Celerio AMT
Renault was bold and designed the Kwid with the SUV features being prominent. The front imposing to the muscular bonnet, the plastic cladding on the high wheel arches, gives the Kwid an SUV typical details.

As for the Celerio, its clean and a safe design from Maruti, there might not be much to talk about the styling part of the Celerio. It is very practical in approach and a commuter friendly aspect which the Celerio brings out.

On the interiors, the Renault Kwid AMT is modern and simple, the large centre console houses the touchscreen infotainment system. All the controls are round in design and the ergonomics are good. The most prominent are the R-Shift dial gear knob to take care of the gearbox.

At the rear is a bit of a letdown, there isn't much space for the passenger and the legroom is quite less. The upholstery and interior, on the whole, is not the best, but great for the price, it comes at.
As for the Maruti Celerio, the U-shaped centre console houses the audio system and the AC controls, while the AMT gear lever is seen high and within reach. The dual tone fabric and the interior gives a spacious feel.

The rear cabin is where the Celerio scores with the best in space when it comes to legroom and headroom, which is best in the segment.
When compared, the Kwid scores well in terms of exterior and the Celerio in the spacious cabin.

Engine & Gearbox of the Kwid AMT vs Celerio AMT
Renault Kwid expected to be powered by 1.0-litre petrol engine which will punch out 65bhp of power and 85Nm of torque, which is mated to the 5-speed AMT. The R-Shift round gear knob is developed along with the Renault F1 team.
As for the Maruti Celerio, it is powered by 1.0-litre petrol engine developing 67bhp of power and 90Nm of torque, which comes mated to the 5-speed AMT, Maruti calls it AGS (Auto Gear Shift).
Comparing the performance of the Kwid AMT with Celerio AMT, the Kwid 800cc engine has been the better performer in terms of mileage compared to the Maruti. Expecting the same with the 1.0-litre of the Kwid.

Features of the Kwid AMT vs Celerio AMT
The Kwid AMT will come equipped with the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment which will is enabled with Bluetooth connectivity, hands-free telephony, USB, Aux-in, and Radio. Also, the most important being the navigation system. The rotary dial of the gear shifter makes it more appealing.
Maruti has equipped the Celerio with 2-din audio system with USB, Aux-in and Bluetooth connectivity, steering mounted audio controls, electrically adjustable ORVMs, tilt adjustable steering wheel.
Maruti Celerio does not get those fancy features like the touchscreen infotainment system, navigation system, however, this could be a personal choice. The Kwid loses out on electrically adjustable ORVMs, steering mounted audio controls and the tilt adjustable steering wheel, however, this could be added when the Kwid 1.0-litre AMT is launched.

Safety of the Kwid AMT vs Celerio AMT
The current Kwid 800cc comes with a single driver side airbag, however, this could be extended to the co-driver side when the AMT is launched.
As for the Maruti Celerio, it does not come with any of the airbags, it does not come even as an option since the safety package is available in the top end variant. The AMT Celerio is offered in the mid variant only, however, Maruti could up the game to stay competitive.
