Tesla has launched the refreshed Model S electric luxury sedan. Prices for the new Model S start at $71,500 and go up to $147,500.

The biggest change in the new Tesla Model S is the loss of the gawping grille which has been eliminated. The new Model S looks a lot more like its SUV sibling the Model X with its very slim mustache like grille in the middle of which sits the Tesla badge.

The headlamps have also been tweaked and are now LED units with 14 three-position LED dynamic turning lights.

Inside there are two new trim accents, Figured Ash Wood and Dark Ash Wood along with the Model X's "medical grade" HEPA air-filtration system which enables the so-called 'Bioweapon Defence Mode'.

Tesla has updated the power units on the new Model S variants to help increase their range.

Charging times will also come down as the charger has been upgraded to 48 amps from the previous 40 amps. There is also an optional 72 amp charger available for even faster charging speeds.

The Tesla Model S P90D can still hit 100km/h from a dead stop in under 3 seconds when Ludicrous mode is engaged thanks to the dual motor system that produces 762bhp and 967Nm of torque.

Tesla will start deliveries for the new Model S in May.
