New Honda City — Is This The India Bound Model?
Honda India last launched the facelifted City back in 2014 and it is time for an overhaul as rivals are eating into the sales of the sedan.
Reports suggest that two prototype models of the City have been exported to Japan raising the speculation that Honda is gearing to launch the new City sedan.
The exported model are equipped with the company's 1.5-litre i-DTEC engine production model, which might be the new City.
The current model is nearing three years since launch and Honda usually keeps a model for three years. Hence, there are high chances of the new City launched soon in India.
There are many suggestions that it could be based on the Honda Greiz sedan which is sold in China. Maruti Ciaz has notched big sales numbers and sold one lakh units in the two years it is in India. Honda has been losing ground in terms of sales and the new facelifted City sedan in imminent.
Honda City has been a leader in the sedan segment and even the only sedan to feature in the top 10 selling vehicles in the India. However, Honda has been witnessing a decline in sales mainly attributed to the Maruti Ciaz.
The Ciaz from Maruti is feature rich with micro hybrid doing the duty for the power. The diesel ban has affected many, the Ciaz enjoys the hybrid technology exemption and the lower pricing has indeed helped in sales.
