NCAP Crash Test Ratings Of Top Selling Cars In India; What About Your Car?

The four-wheeler industry in India has seen numerous launches from various car manufacturers, are these models safe enough? Read through to find out the NCAP crash test ratings for some of the top selling cars in India.
Hyundai
Eon - The Eon without airbags scored zero stars in the AOP (Adult Occupation Protection) category and two stars for Child Restraints. On the Child Restraints, the Hyundai Eon scored 20.42 out of 49.00 points.
i10 - The i10 without airbags scored zero stars in the AOP as well, however, scored one star in the child restraints ratings.
i20 - The i20 with dual airbags from Hyundai was the better car in term of safety ratings, it scored 4 stars in the AOP category and 3 stars for the Child Restraints category.

Maruti Suzuki
Eeco - The Eeco without airbags which is MPV from Maruti scored zero stars in the AOP, however, in points wise it was better, however, in the Child restraints it scored a good 2 stars.
Celerio - The Celerio with airbags scored zero stars in the AOP and a single star in the Child Restraints safety. NCAP did not test the Celerio with the airbags, so there is no confirmation on how it fairs in terms of safety.
Swift - NCAP scored the Swift with zero stars in AOP without airbags in the hot selling cars from Maruti in India. As for the Child Restraints, the Swift scored a single star.
Alto - This Alto is K10 variant and it scored a zero star in AOP and a good 2 stars in the Child Restraints category. The Alto tested was without the airbags.
Baleno - Two models of the Suzuki Baleno was tested:
- With Radar Brake Support (RBS)
- Without Radar Brake Support
Both variants had six airbags.
The variant with RBS scored4 stars in AOP and 3 stars for Child Restraints. The variant without RBS scored 3 stars in AOP and 3 stars for Child Restraints.
Mahindra
Scorpio - The Mahindra Scorpio was tested without the airbags and it scored zero stars in AOP and 2 stars for the Child Restraints category.
Renault
Kwid - The popular Renault Kwid was tested in three models, the first model without the airbags scored zero star for the AOP and 2 stars in Child Restraints category, however, the second model with better reinforcement scored better in terms of points for the Child Restraints.
The model with the airbag did better only in terms of points for the Child Restraints, not on the star rating, though, it remained the same.
Toyota
Etios Liva - The Etios Liva with dual airbags scored a good 4 stars for AOP and 2 stars for the Child Restraints.
Ford
Figo - The Figo without airbags scored zero stars for AOP however, in points it scored better compared some its competitors. As for the Child Restraints, it scored 2-star ratings. This was done in 2014.
EcoSport - The EcoSport was tested back in 2013, this model was tested with dual airbags and scored 4 stars for AOP and 3 stars for the Child Restraints.
Volkswagen
Polo - The Polo was tested with and without the airbags, the model without the airbags scored zero stars for AOP and 3 stars for Child Restraints. The Polo with the dual airbags scored 4 stars for AOP and 3 stars for Child Restraints.
Tata Motors
Nano - The Nano without the airbags scored zero stars for AOP and in the Child Restraints category as well.
Datsun
GO - The GO without the airbags scored zero stars in AOP and 2 stars for child restraints, however, there was no model with the airbags were tested.
India is getting ready to comply with safety standards like dual airbags with ABS as a standard for all model registered post-2017. Many of the manufacturers are already providing these safety features as an option or even as standard across variants. However, these cars will have to be better in terms of crash impact without the safety equipment.
