Mini Reveals 2017 JCW Rally Car For Dakar Rally 2017
Mini has revealed its 2017 Dakar Rally car. Mini states that its an all-new car compared to the previous model.
Mini has revealed the John Cooper Works rally car for the Dakar Rally 2017. Dakar Rally is the toughest off-road event on the planet.
The Dakar rally car is based on the Countryman. The rally car is built in collaboration with Mini's motorsport partner X-Raid and it's the all-new machine compared to the previous model.
The 2017 Mini rally car will make its debut at the Silk Way Rally in 2017. The JCW Rally is powered by 3-liter six-cylinder diesel engine from BMW which is tuned to produced 340bhp and 800Nm of torque.
Mini states that the powertrain has been optimised by an addition of new engine management system which reduces fuel consumption while maintaining its power in high altitude.
The engine is coupled to a six-speed gearbox from Sadev. The 2017 Mini Rally features racing clutch, lockable front and rear differential with centrifugal differential and Akrapovic exhaust system.
Although the new JCW Rally's exterior measures exactly the same as the previous model. There have been improvements made in terms of aerodynamics. Kevlar is used on the underside of the rally car.
The suspension on the Mini JCW Rally is handled by Reiger Racing Suspension system with two adjustable dampers with a travel of 250mm each.
Senior Vice President, Mini, Sebastian Mackensen said, "MINI and X-raid, which is a legendary partnership [sic]. Together we have characterized the successful racing history of this famous British brand with four successive victories in the Dakar and the FIA Cross-Country World Cup from 2012 to 2015."
He added, "Our desire is to work further in this direction and underline the authentic racing competence of John Cooper Works. With the completion of the new MINI John Cooper Works Rally, MINI is perfectly positioned to expand its sporting successes."
