Mercedes Prepping Tesla Model S Rival For Paris Motor Show Debut
German automaker Mercedes-Benz is set to unveil an all-new electric vehicle which will rival the Tesla Model S.
According to Aussie publication, Motoring, the new electric sedan is expected to make its debut as a concept vehicle at the 2016 Paris Motor Show.
The news about the electric sedan comes at a time when major carmakers around the world are trying their level best to stay ahead of increasingly stifling emission norms.
The switch to electric power should come as no surprise then as Mercedes are expected to launch 4 electric vehicles(EV) by the end of the decade as it tries to catch up with the American startup that it saved from going bust in 2009. In 2009, the parent company of Mercedes-Benz Daimler AG invested $50 million in Tesla Motors.
However, Mercedes now has the American upstart firmly in its sights as it aims to lead the German revolution into the EV world.
The new vehicle is expected to be dangerously quick and Mercedes is targeting a range of around 500 kilometers for the Model S Rival. The price of the new EV which is expected to make its way onto the roads by 2018 is expected to be similar to the pricing of the Model S.
