Mercedes-AMG Considering Alonso As Rosberg’s Replacement By Toto Wolff
Fernando Alonso is being considered as Nico Rosberg’s replacement at Mercedes-AMG by Toto Wolff. It is Alonso’s attitude and work ethic that has impressed Mercedes-AMG officials.
Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One team has a tough task ahead of itself. Nico Rosberg's surprise decision has definitely impacted Mercedes-AMG's plans. Almost every top Formula One driver is in a formal contract with a team for the 2017 F1 Championship.
Toto Wolff, Mercedes-AMG, Executive Director, has confirmed that it would not like to disrupt harmony with other teams. Although, Fernando Alonso is being considered as Nico Rosberg's replacement, owing to his hardworking ethics and never quit attitude.
Currently, Alonso has a contract with McLaren-Honda for at least one more year. The Spanish two-time Formula One Champion is eager to get back to winning ways. Fernando Alonso has expressed his displeasure with McLaren-Honda, who have not lived up to his expectations.
Previously, Lewis Hamilton and Fernando Alonso could not coexist at McLaren. The combination was extremely volatile and both drivers could not stand each other. Alonso's stint alongside, Hamilton consisted of just a single year and he moved back to Renault.
If Mercedes-AMG can woo Fernando Alonso to join them for 2017 season, it will be interesting to see how Alonso and Hamilton get along. Most teams now know that you cannot have two drivers whose goal is to win and are on the same level. Surely, McLaren-Honda will not also let go of their star driver for 2017 Formula One Championship.
