McLaren & Alonso Confirm 2nd Half Of F1 Season To Be Tough
McLaren-Honda experienced mixed results at the Hungarian GP. Fernando Alonso secured seventh place finish after a tough race. Jenson Button on the other hand, had an issue with his brakes, which ruined his race and potential point finish.
Alonso and McLaren have now confirmed that they need to put all their focus and energy on the German GP. They believe that they can achieve double point finish at the next race. Unfortunately, they have also cited that the second half could be tough for them.
The McLaren-Honda engine is clearly down on performance. Surprisingly, their chassis is exceptional and is excellent for tight and tricky circuits. Upcoming races are expected to be power hungry ones, which could expose the shortcoming of their race package.
Post the German GP, Formula One paddock will go on a summer break. They will return to Spa and Monza circuits, which are power hungry. McLaren-Honda is not expected to be competitive at these and following circuits owing to their top-speed issues.
