Mazda Begins MX 5 RF Production — Retractable Fastback!
The first batch of Mazda MX 5 RF Roadster has started to roll out of the assembly line in Hiroshima, Japan. The Mazda MX 5 RF (Retractable Fastback) is the latest version of the company's celebrated roadster.
Mazda's MX 5 RF roadster version is packed with the Targa-style roof with fixed mainstay and a retractable roof panel to provide advantages of open-air driving without any compromises. The model is being built alongside the fully convertible Miata.
Mazda will ship the first examples to North America and Europe before it goes on sale in the Japanese market later this year as Roadster RF.
The company is hoping to help expand its lineup with the MX 5 RF with the new appeal. The two-door open top roadster seats two persons. Mazda claims the retractable rooftop can open in just 12 seconds.
Also, the retractable roof top can be operated while driving up to the speed of 10km/h and comes in a new colour Machine Grey.
The new Mazda MX 5 RF will feature two sets of engines called SKYACTIV-G claiming to deliver aninstant response, effortless power without compromising the grunt and husky roar sound of the motor.
While the UK bound roadster will be powered by the 2.0-litre DOCH 16-valve four cylinder with VVT and can churn out 152bhp and 200Nm of torque. The U.S. bound Mazda MX 5 RF will be offered with the 1.5-litre 130bhp petrol mill as well.
As for the retractable roof top, Mazda says they were crafted using the KODO: Soul of Motion design language. Also, the roadster features Mazda's intuitive infotainment system.
Mazda claims the roadster is built for pure driving pleasure mainly because of its 50:50 weight distribution and rear-wheel makes it one of the best handling roadster.
