Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire AMT vs Tata Zest AMT Comparison

Written By:

Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) is finding its way into many cars. The Tata Zest featured the first AMT for a diesel car in India, which then set the ball rolling for other carmakers. The latest car in the compact sedan segment to get an AMT is the Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire.

The Swift Dzire AMT has one goal in mind and that is to beat the Tata Zest AMT. So how do these cars compare in terms of pricing, design, engine specification, and features? Let's take a look.

  • Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire ZDi AMT: Rs. 9.56 lakh
  • Tata Zest XMA (Diesel): Rs. 8.37 lakh
  • Tata Zest XTA (Diesel): Rs. 9.29 lakh

Note: All prices are approximate on-road (Delhi)

The Swift Dzire is based on the Swift hatchback and the design language is very similar, apart from a boot. The Swift Dzire has a love it or hate it design, and may not appeal to many in terms of design. But again, the Dzire is the second best selling car in India. The Dzire's design has been around for a long time now and has seen quite a few updates over the years.

The Tata Zest looks spectacular from the front. Tata Motors has worked hard to get the design right, but as you move towards the rear, it looks like the engineers have run out of idea. The rear of the car looks quite plain, and if wasn't for the little details in the tail lamp, the design could have gone very plain.

Engine & Gearbox

The Swift Dzire's diesel version is a 1248cc, four-cylinder turbocharged motor that produces 74bhp and 190Nm of torque. The diesel engine returns a mileage of 26.5km/l, and is mated to a five-speed AMT gearbox.

The Tata Zest AMT is offered with a diesel engine alone, which is a 1248cc, four-cylinder turbocharged motor that produces 89bhp and 200Nm of torque. The diesel engine returns a mileage of 23km/l and is paired to a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

The top-spec variant of the Dzire AMT, which is the ZDi version comes with automatic climate control, tilt adjustment for the steering, height adjustment for the driver's seat, electrically adjustable and retractable outer mirrors, music system with AUX, Bluetooth, and USB connectivity, and fabric seat upholstery.

Again, the Swift Dzire ZDi AMT and the Tata Zest XTA AMT feature, Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), driver and passenger airbags, engine immobilizer, central locking, and speed sensing door locks come standard on both vehicles.

When both vehicles are compared, the Tata Zest has a couple of extra features such as the parking sensors and foglamps. The Tata Zest is also a better package since it has a powerful engine compared to the Dzire.

In such a situation, it comes down to brand value, and that's where Maruti Suzuki scores high. So if brand value is not your concern and a good product is what you are looking for, the Tata Zest is a good option.
