Baleno To Add Mettle To Maruti’s Export Plans
The premium hatchback segment in India is the current flavour with many looking to add to their range of cars. Many first-time buyers are looking for premium features as well with an affordable pricing and that is where Maruti Suzuki's Baleno is proving its mettle.
Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) understands the pulse of the Indian market and have time and again launched products which suit every buyer. One of the product is the Baleno hatchback. The company has sold nearly 1 lakh units since its launch in October 2015.
Now, the company is planning to launch it 100 more countries, yes, that's the number of countries globally that Maruti plans to offer the Baleno.
The countries include the Caribbean Islands and South Africa in the coming months as to plans to expand to other countries like Latin America, Middle East and Southeast Asia.
A company spokesperson saidMSI is currently exporting the Baleno to France, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Chile, Israel, England, Nepal, Bhutan, Austria, and Australia.
A total of 38,000 units have been shipped till date to countries globally. Maruti has exported the Baleno to Japan, where its parent company Suzuki Motor Corporation (SMC) is based and the hatchback is the first product from the company.
The Make-in-India product, Baleno has an investment of Rs 1,060 crore in the development of the vehicle. This is being manufactured out the company's Manesar plant in Haryana.
The Maruti Suzuki Baleno is a premium hatchback which is powered by a choice two engines in the guise of petrol and diesel. While the petrol mill is a 1.2-litre VVT and churns out 83bhp and 115 torque, the diesel is a 1.3-litre DDiS developing 74bhp and 190Nm of peak torque.
The petrol unit is mated to either 5-speed manual gearbox to the choice of Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT), the automatic gearbox. The diesel unit comes paired with the 5-speed manual gearbox.
Maruti has equipped the Baleno with standard features such as dual airbags, seat belt pre-tensioners and ABS with EBD across variants.
Maruti has priced the Baleno in India with starting price range of Rs 5.25 lakh ex-showroom (Delhi). The company plans to launch a sportier version Baleno RS during the upcoming festive season.
