Mahindra To Bring An All-electric SUV By 2020
Mahindra had been planning for an electric vehicle (EV) ever since it acquired Reva. The manufacturer has since then introduced the e2o hatchback and the e-Verito sedan.
Now, the company competing in Formula E, is planning for an all-electric SUV by 2020.
We expect the new EV to be a compact SUV. The reports reveal that the new SUV will be codenamed as "S107".
Anand Mahindra, chairman of Mahindra & Mahindra said, "If anyone is preparing feverishly for a disruptive future of mobility, it is Mahindra."
Mahindra & Mahindra's CEO, Pravin Shah said, "We intend to be profitable participants in this new world." Which means the company will produce cost effective electric cars in future."
"We are looking to add more SUVs as well as commercial vehicles to our electric vehicle portfolio. The focus will be on offering more affordable electric vehicles for higher accessibility. Mahindra Reva will continue to address the range anxiety with continuous development," Shah added.
Many other manufacturers have previously announced their plans to adopt the hybrid technology. Maruti, which has introduced the mild hybrid technology in its several cars is one manufacturer among them.
Moreover, Mahindra, Tata and Maruti have collaborated before to develop electric-hybrid car parts.
On the other hand, Ford is also said to be exploring the possibility of a hybrid-electric EcoSport.
