Lexus parent company Toyota is all gearing up to set up a plant in Bengaluru to locally assemble some of the models in India. One such move will be shifting of water-based paints that are used by Lexus models. The firm will start assembling its hybrid models at the beginning.
Lexus models such as the Lexus ES 300h are likely to be the very first models to be built in India. Apart from reduced taxes, company will also benefit from the FAME scheme for hybrid vehicles in the country.
Toyota is already enjoying this benefit for the Camry Hybrid car manufactured in the country. Lexus too will be doing the same once it begins production of hybrid cars.
Lexus will begin with only a handful of the dealer network, and will gradually expand throughout the country. Although Lexus is new to the Indian market, it's a well-known brand in the country. Lexus also wants to sell its non-hybrid models in India. It is speculating to launch its full-size LX SUV in both petrol and diesel variants in the country, as the trend towards SUV is ever growing in the automobile industry.
