The company feels India is critical as the country is racing towards becoming the third-biggest car market globally. Kia had sold over three million vehicles last year and has been eyeing the Indian market for a while now.
According to the interview given to TOI, An official said KIA has already started to work on acquiring land for its factory. It has already completed numerous reports on the Indian market, including a detailed feasibility study.
He added that once completed, the factory may even be used by Hyundai to manufacture of some of its models.
In India, Kia will be sold through its own retail network, similar to all the other markets where Hyundai is also present. The entry of KIA will make the Indian market more competitive.
