Kerala High Court Stays NGT Diesel Ban
The Kerala High Court has issued a stay on an order of the National Green Tribunal(NGT) which banned diesel vehicles over 10 years old from running in six major cities in Kerala.
The High court's order has resulted in a motor vehicle strike on June 23 in the state being called off. June 23 was the date when the NGT order was supposed to come in place
The May 23 order of the NGT bench in Kochi had banned vehicles older than 10 years from plying on the streets of six cities in Kerala - Kannur, Kochi, Kollam, Kozhikode, Thrissur and the state capital of Thiruvananthapuram.
The order had also banned the registration of diesel vehicles with engines over 2,000cc, which was stayed by the court on May 27.
However, the latest order which came after a petition from the state-run transport service KSRTC against the ban has seen the order being rescinded in its entirety.
