Jeep Has Been Caught Once Again, Testing The Renegade In India
Jeep showcased its products that will be launched in India at the 2016 Auto Expo in Delhi. The Wrangler and Grand Cherokee luxury SUV models will be launching in India soon. Surprisingly, the American-based manufacturer has been testing the Renegade on Indian roads as well.
As of now, Jeep has not confirmed the launch of Renegade in India. Only the Wrangler and Grand Cherokee models are confirmed to launch. Jeep India, however, plans on introducing an all-new locally manufactured SUV codenamed Jeep 551.
The camouflaged Renegade was caught testing on the roads of Pune. Currently, India is part of Jeep's Global Testing location. So there is a possibility that the vehicle might only be tested and not launched in the country.
The Jeep 551 will be based on the Renegade, which uses the Fiat 500X platform. The model is most likely to go on sale in India by 2017, at Fiat's facility in Ranjangaon, Maharashtra. At this moment, it is unclear what engines will be under the hood of the locally assembled Jeep.
Renegade in international markets is powered by an optional 1.4-litre and 2.4-litre petrol engine. An option between 6-speed manual and 9-speed automatic is offered by Jeep. Though the Renegade is small, Jeep confirms that it is thorough off-roader.
