Jeep has stopped production of its Cherokee SUV and is facing delays with the Grand Cherokee due to a lack of steering wheels.

According to Automotive News, Jeep halted production of the Cherokee for a third consecutive shift last week at its Fiat Chrysler's(FCA) Toledo North Assembly Plan in Toledo, Ohio and is facing delays due to the same problem at the Fiat Chrysler's Jefferson North Assembly Plant in Detroit, Michigan, which produces the Grand Cherokee SUV.

The steering wheels are manufactured in Mexico by Key Safety Systems Inc. who are based in Sterling Heights, Michigan.

However, the dealy should not worry Jeep who have a 90-day inventory of unsold Cherokees (59,951 units) as well as a 92-day supply of unsold Grand Cherokees (58,277) as of May 1, 2016, which should help them tide over the current steering wheel crisis.
