Baku City Circuit Plays Host To 2016 European Formula One GP
Over the years, several locations and circuits have hosted the European GP. For 2016, Baku City in Azerbaijan playing host to the Formula One paddock. It is a street circuit and it is the very first time Formula One drivers will be actually driving around the track.
So far, two practice sessions have been successful in gathering data. Both sessions witnessed Lewis Hamilton leading rest of the pack by a decent margin. The track layout is suiting the Mercedes-powered vehicles, as it is a power demanding circuit.
Both Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen are having a tough time around the Baku City Circuit. The drivers are just realising that their Scuderia Ferrari still needs improvement. Ferrari power unit is still lacking straight line speed to defeat Mercedes.
Surprisingly, Jenson Button has made it into the top ten with a ninth fastest lap time. Fernando Alonso was not far off down in the eleventh position. The duo still needs to find two seconds which separates them from the top Mercedes pair.
Qualifying will be held on June 18 at 18:30 IST, the main race will be on June 19 at 18:30 IST. It will be interesting to see who wins the inaugural Baku City Circuit race. Expect several safety car situations and tyre changes throughout the race.
