The 2017 Ford Fusion will have the shift into Park feature as standard across all the variants. This feature is offered by the manufacturer at no extra cost.

Dubbed 'Return to Park' system, uses data from several sensors integrated into the car. These sensors will indicate whether the driver intends to exit, and the system will automatically shift into Park if the ignition is turned off.

Mark Zyskowski, marque's e-shift systems technical expert said, "When we decided to go with the new rotary shifter for the 2017 Ford Fusion, the team all sat together in a room to see what additional customer benefit we could bring to the table.

"We thought about what we could add without getting in the way of normal day-to-day scenarios, and all agreed that a feature to help confirm Park is selected when exiting the vehicle seemed really worthwhile."

On the go, if the driver turns off the engine, the system will detect and shift into neutral until the car slows down below 8 km/h, and then automatically shifts into Park.
