Getting A Drivers License Might Just Become Costlier!

The government might increase the fees for the issue and renewal of driving licenses of all vehicles in the coming days. Now, for a new license might cost up to Rs. 1,200 than the previously determined Rs. 320.

Since the government has proposed a four-fold increase in licence issue and renewal fees, the driving schools are also planning for an increase from Rs. 2,500 to Rs. 10,000 in their fees.

revised driving license fees

The Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry proposed amendments to the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, on July 28, to charge separate fees for conducting driving competence test for different categories of vehicles.

The last time the revised the fee structure was during 2001-02. Now, a sum of Rs. 50 is charged to conduct a driving test for all vehicles; the Centre had also proposed to increase it to Rs. 300.

Once the revised prices are sanctioned, a smart card driving licence will cost Rs. 400 while a learner's driving licence will cost Rs.150.

The fee for the renewal of both smart card and non-smart card licences are expected to be increased to Rs. 200 from Rs. 50.

To receive an international driving permit, the person has to now pay Rs. 1,000 from the old fee of Rs. 500. The government also proposed Rs. 200 standard fee for changing the particulars in the driving licence such as the residing address.
