Diesel Vehicles Over 15 Years To Be Deregistered In Delhi

Diesel vehicles over fifteen years are being impounded and scrapped in Delhi. Commercial and personal four-wheelers over fifteen years are being deregistered by Delhi Transport Department.

National Green Tribunal recently passed a motion that diesel vehicles over ten years should not ply on Delhi-NCR roads. The Delhi Transport Department has now ordered that all diesel vehicles over fifteen years will be deregistered with immediate effect.

Both personal, as well as commercial vehicles, will be affected by this ruling. Initially, Delhi Transport Department will be deregistering over fifteen-year-old diesel vehicles. At this point, Delhi traffic police are impounding old vehicles for deregistration purpose.

Impounded diesel vehicles will be then sent for scrapping by the Delhi traffic police. So far, Delhi Transport Department or National Green Tribunal have not decided where deregistered vehicles will be scrapped. All impounded vehicles are being stored at police stations across Delhi.

Commercial vehicles, trucks, and buses have to undergo a vehicle fitness test post two years of purchase. After that, owners will have to perform fitness test with Delhi Transport Department every year. This will ensure that polluting vehicles will be pulled off the streets immediately.
