Datsun GO Likely To Get Smaller Engine From Kwid

Japanese carmaker Datsun is likely to drop the upcoming 1.0-litre engine from the Renault Kwid under the hood of its GO hatchback.

The GO currently uses a 1.2-litre engine that produces 67bhp and 104Nm of torque.

The switch to the smaller capacity engine comes down to one parameter — price. The engine is closely related to the one doing duty in the Micra and features numerous imported components that bring up the cost of the car.

So in a bid to keep the costs of building the GO low, Datsun is switching to the smaller capacity engine.

This is something that would made possible by the Renault-Nissan alliance's new 1.0-litre engine. The engine is produced at the alliance plant near Chennai and will first be seen doing duty in the Renault Kwid

The engine is expected to be tuned to get around the same amount of power produced by the current GO engine.

No details have been revealed yet about when the GO is set to start hitting the roads with its new powerplant.
