Daimler Reveals Mercedes-Benz Urban eTruck — Advanced Urban Truck Technology
At the Internationale Automobil-Ausstellung 2016 (IAA), considered to be the world's largest commercial vehicle show, Daimler's truck division has rolled out its concept truck Urban eTruck with a 200km range.
The Daimler Urban eTruck is a fully electric 6x2 cab over with refrigerated body and 5,443kgs gross vehicle weight (GVW). The power for the eTruck is delivered by two electric motors mounted on the drive wheel ends.
The users can specify the proper storage capacity based on their individual operation with the modular battery package design. This is over and above the standard three-battery module which ranges 200kms. Also, available will be a compact two-battery module which offers higher payload for ashorter distance.
All the three modules depend on the regenerative braking for charging the battery during the operation. Inside the concept Urban eTruck, the twin 12-inch displays provide the required control and operating information while the automated drive controls adjust the vehicle speed and braking based on the actual traffic and road conditions.
The drivers can choose from power, normal and eco drive modes based on the availability of the battery power and need. Daimler has fully integrated its FleetBoard telematics system which is central to the Urban eTruck's efficiency. This helps dispatchers to remotely monitor the truck's operations and plan routes and loads to maximise the electric truck's efficiency.
Daimler will start the standard production of this type of truck from the start of next decade. Also, showcased from the van division of Daimler is the Vision Van concept to cater to the last mile connectivity.
