Competition Commission Of India Rejects Complaint Made Against Mercedes-Benz
The CCI has dismissed a case filed against Mercedes-Benz for selling non-genuine spare parts.
The Competition Commission of India (CCI), the fair trade regulator has dismissed a case filed against German automaker, Mercedes-Benz.

The Complaint said that an authorised Mercedes-Benz service outlet in Gujarat adopted malpractices, by selling non-genuine spare parts for two buses, and charging the customer higher than the actual MRP.

The complaint mentioned that lack of proper after-sales service network, delay in availability of spare parts, and abuse of dominant position to cheat the informant as there are no other service centres in Gujarat, apart from one, authorised by Mercedes-Benz.

Dismissing the case, CCI said, "Such allegations do not reveal any Competition issue. No case is made out against OP (Mercedes) for contravention of the provisions of Section 4 of the Act."

"The Commission is of the opinion that such allegations do not reveal any competition issue," it added. Section 4 of the Competition Act pertains to abuse of dominant position.
