BMW India Rolls Out 50,000th Locally Manufactured Model
BMW commenced local assembly of their products from March 29, 2007. The German luxury car maker has now rolled out its 50,000th locally produced model. It was a special occasion at the BMW Chennai facility for all those associated.
The 50,000th locally manufactured model from BMW was their all-new 7-Series. BMW is focussing on their 'Make In India' initiative and rolling out local assembly was a top priority. The German manufacturer's plan was to increase localisation up to 50 percent in its portfolio.
Currently, eight BMW models are locally manufactured at their Chennai facility. The 1-Series, 3-Series, 3-Series Gran Turismo, 5-Series, 7-Series, X1, X3, and X5 models. With local assembly and manufacturing, BMW India can reduce the price of its vehicles, owing to lower taxes.
Present on this momentous occasion was Dr, Jochen Stallkamp, Managing Director, BMW Plant Chennai. He confirmed that all models manufactured in India are on par with the internationally manufactured products by the German luxury car maker.
