A jury of experts, part of the CarIT Awards presented by the German Magazine CarIT have awarded the BMW 7 Series for its innovation — the remote control parking system. The innovative system made its world premiere on the 7 Series.
The remote control parking system allows the car to be driven in or out of garages, or perpendicular parking spaces without the driver at the wheel. This enable the car to be parked or be driven out of tight parking spaces. The system is activated by the driver using the key, while he stands outside the car, watching out for obstacles.
The entire parking procedure is monitored by the car using Park Distance Control (PDC) system, the Parking Assistant, and the Surround View sensors. To activate Remote Control Parking, the driver has to position the car centrally and squarely in front of the parking space or the garage. The BMW 7 Series' driver can interrupt the parking progress of the car at any time.
Every year since 2010, the German magazine and Prof. Stefan Bratzel from the Center of Automotive Management in Bergisch Gladbach team up and comes up with a list of the most innovative carmakers and countries in the "Connected Car" field of technology. From these technologies, a jury of experts crowned BMW's Remote Control Parking system the winner.
