Audi response will include 3 new electric cars by the year 2020 and the carmaker plans for electric vehicles (EV) to account for 25 – 30 percent of its sales by the year 2025.
Audi Chief Executive Rupert Stadler told German newspaperHeilbronner Stimme that his company would offer electric variants of even smaller A-segment cars.
The company also plans to develop autonomous cars and is planning to set up a subsidiary which will be called SDS Company, to take care of the same. Audi will also look for joint venture partners who would help the company with the technology.
Speaking about the autonomous car, Stadler said, "This is about a robot car that may not even need a steering wheel or pedals, so it's ideal for urban traffic."
Audi's plan which calls for the company to focus on EVs, automated cars will see Audi cut funding to other projects.
