Next Gen Audi A8 Will Be The World's First Fully Autonomous Car
The next generation of German carmaker Audi's flagship A8 sedan is due to hit the streets in 2017.
When it does land on the streets, the new A8 Limo will be the first car to feature Level 3 autonomous driving, meaning the driver can keep his 'eyes off' the road as the car drives itself around. The new A8 will also feature artificial intelligence.
The level 3 autonomous driving will come in the form of a Traffic Jam Assist, which will drive the car on its own at speeds up to 60km/h in congested traffic on the motorways.
Unlike the systems currently available in cars like the Tesla Model S, the A8's Traffic Jam Assist will fully control the car without the need of any input or supervision from the driver. The system will also monitor the driver and slow the car down if it doesn't detect any movement.
Owners will also be able to remotely park their cars into parking bays through an iPhone app via the Autonomous Park Assist feature.
Another new feature on the new-gen A8 sedan is the addition of an artificial intelligence system which will spot regular journey's made by the car and will automatically add them to the navigation system. It is also expected to learn driver behaviour and make recommendations to help make the journey more relaxing.
