Andhra Pradesh And Telangana Wooing Tesla Motors
Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are trying to rope in US-based elecric car manufacturer Tesla Motors to their shores.
The two telugu speaking states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are said to be in a battle to rope in US-based electric car maker Tesla Motors to their shores.
Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu, Telangana Chief Minister, K Chandrasekhar Rao and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis have sent representatives to Tesla boss Elon Musk.
The representatives will try to convince Musk about the advantages of setting up a manufacturing plant in their respective states. The three states are trying to crack a deal by offering SEZ's and port access.
A senior Andhra Pradesh government official stated that the AP government delegations had visited Tesla Motors' assembly plant a couple of times in the past year and discussed over energy efficiency.
The three states are striving hard to house Tesla Motors' Gigafactory, which is said to be the largest plants in the world to produce lithium-ion batteries that powers Tesla Motors' vehicles.
Tesla will be setting up its first Gigafactory in Nevada which is expected to get started on the battery plant in 2017. The company may consider housing its manufacturing plant in India after its US venture.
During the launch of Tesla Model 3, Musk has hinted that the electric car will hit Indian shores in the next couple of years. In fact the Indian customers can pre-order the Model 3.
Earlier in June this year, Union Road Transport and Highways and Shipping minister Nitin Gadkari also visited Tesla Motors' San Francisco facility and invited the firm to set up its plant in India through joint ventures with Indian auto makers.
Gadkari had also offered access to major ports in India to make India as the Asian manufacturing hub for Tesla Motors' vehicles.
